2 more moderators detained

My question in the post below has been answered. Mohammed Almosawi, 21 years old, and Hussain Yousif, 23 years old, both university students and moderators on Bahrainonline, have been summoned to the General Prosecutors office for questioning tomorrow at 9am. But when they went to receive the summons from Hoora police station they were both detained.

Seems the whole bahrainonline crew will be taken in...shame I couldn't be there to join the reunion ;)

Makes you wonder, if you knew u were going into custody, what would you pack in your suitcase? Would you be cocky or cooperative? Would you prefer solitary confinement or shared cells with fellow prisoners?

Speaking to the guys though, they're taking it all in their stride, either they don't realise the seriousness or are very confident. One joked that the only thing he'll miss is sheesha.

Hope they stay strong and keep their heads held high. That royal decree number 53439843 should come soon...

Be careful of what you wish for! I'm surprised the protests haven't already begun. Any word?

Bahrania, this is a major screw-up on someone's part and I am confident it's going to be sorted out pretty soon. Hang tight.

These actions will force the hands of the "moderates" to slap those of the hard-liners. Believe me, good sense will prevail...

At least I hope so.

For some reason I dont believe the authorities are going to give up on this one.

I have this strong inclination that the police will use any means possible to force the three to close the site down. The site is hosted on a US server and they've realised that Batelco can only block the domain names and that they can't block it through the various proxies. I think they will demand that the database of the forum be deleted off the face of the planet.

Chatting to one of them before hand, he literally just left his lunch on the dining table and thought he was going to pop out to get the summons - never to return.

If the intention is for the government is to wipe out the site and destroy its database, then this once again displays their ignorance of the internet quite brightly! They obviously have not heard of things like the Internet Archive or Google's Cache and various other archival sites where any webmaster has very very little control over.

No, I think this is yet another case of "the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing" kind of thing. More appropriately this smells to me like a case of a meddling middle manager who wants to make a name for himself.

Bahrania, not only you and I are furious about this case, I know quite a number of other people who's opinion counts are too.

I advise everyone to remain calm, but continue to put appropriate polite pressure. Let's not exacerbate a situation that might very well be resolved in the coming few days.

Dear follow future cell mates,
Comrades in the Jihad for humanity, respect and freedom of expression.
Who are we kidding ?
Why didn't anyone listen to me when I said that this phase of our history is to test the waters.
We got the rope. We tied it around our necks. Game over.
First they arrest one.
Like in a cheap bazaar, there was a barter deal: You come with us, we return your sister.
The saga continues, another two are arrested... and then what?
This is another "musalsal" of terror people have to experience to aspire to become human beings.
It is part of our evolution as Bahrainis.

What's interesting is that Ali's site can be accessed by its direct ip address and this has been accessible for the past 2 weeks - and no one's blocking it anymore.

Proxify.com have added ali's site to their list of premium sites that let you in only with a credit card - well why bother with proxify when 70.84.12.170 can get you in directly - i wonder if this address will be be blocked by tomorrow as well - :-D

Whoever who ordered these arrests along with other websites being added to the list - is a complete tool! I'm wondering if these tools are thinking of arresting bloggers like you and I as well -

And i agree with Mahmood - deleting the database of users or shutting down the site is not going to solve anything. You close down one site and then you'll have 10 more sites the next day opening up. it would be a pretty lame idea for anyone to do that and secondly i think whoever who ordered those arrests was just in a bad mood - probably he/she/they/it regrets the move now - atleast i hope so.
