Michael
I dedicate this post to a good friend of mine called Michael, he is Greek, a right-wing social introvert and a living breathing genius at that, and one of the few acquaintances who bothers to read this blog. The funny thing about Michael is that he doesn't like talking face-to-face, most of the time he tells me to not disturb him with my idle chatter. Yet I insist on pestering him and now he stopped coming into uni cos of me. He often grimaces in despair at some remarks I make and shakes his head in embarrassment. But on MSN messenger, he is more than chatty! I had this MSN chat with him this morning (totally uncut!):Michael says:

well, broadly speaking European/north American styles of governments, capitalism, enlightment, renaissance, European values (and some will say the Christian faith)

look, personally, I don't think the west is more civilized, or that the rest of the world is more 'barbarian"

anon i didnt quite get ur 'Fact' in this particular context. Who da pig? me, you, or michael?
I am the pig! usually when i want to finish something that I like!
What I meant by my fact, is that what is considered civilised by some can be very uncivilized in another culture.
The western world is often termed as the "civilized" world , which would mean there would be a uncivilized out there.
So I was thinking it would be highly uncivilized to eat rubbish, yet there are many pork eaters in the western world!
I am sorry if my comment implied that you or Mr. Micheal were pigs!
If anyone is a pig its me, usually when i am hungry :)
I should add, if you were Miss Piggy (from the Muppets)! I am your number one fan!:) Shes cute!

hey michael...u deserve an egg mayo sandwich... i would never have known about the wonders of the Abacus (even if it wasn't invented by arabs), Factiva, or the Queen's algorithm for seating arrangements in Buckingham palace, the benefits of headstands,the importance of ducks in photographs, Yahoo Chess and that i talk too much!
In return, i still fail to understand why you read cnn.com and would advice u inject a bit of emotion to your pure rational approach. Where is the greek vivacity we all know and love.
