End of year blues...

Step off the plane
im walking past your street again
past your door
i guess u don't live there anymore

miss you since you've been there
& now u've disappeared somewhere
like out of space
you've found some better place...

Happy Birthday!

A better place to be...
Writing free verse
unburdened of rhymes
True, true, so true
Words must be weighed
And never be counted

One of my fav quotes is this:
"I believe that if I should die, and you were to walk near my grave, from the very depths of the earth I would hear your footsteps."

loool

Sume: who said its my birthday??!!

its a song by the band Texas, i couldn't get it out of my head yesterday.

Hawkeyes: i like the quote, and on this morose note, I can add to the theme with the following text message i received:

When I am dead my dearest,
sing no sad songs for me
Plant no roses at my head,
nor shady cypress tree
Be the green grass above me,
with rain and dewdrops wet
And if you will, remember
And if you will, forget……

Shoot, I saw it at Strav's blog. Was he talking about Bahrain's National Day? LOL, oops!

Scorpio, You have no romance in your soul. I see you as middle aged, balding and over-weigh.

Hey Bahrania, Since my mood matches yours today, heres a favourite of mine. Of course, it loses something in the translation.

In the wasteland of solitude, my love, quiver
shadows of your voice, illusions of your lips.
In the wasteland of solitude, from the dusts of parting
Sprout jasmines and roses of your presence

From somewhere close by, rises the warmth of your breath
and in its own aroma smolders, slowly, bit by bit.
Far-off, across the horizon, drop by glistening drop
Falls the dew of your beguiling glance.

With such overwhelming love, O my love,
your memory has placed its hand on my heart's cheek,
that it looks as if (though it's still the dawn of the adieu)
the sun of parting has set; the night of union has come.

And a last one, which also shows you how to deal with such a mood :-)

That sigh from the heart
Has not the importance of a straw,
Although it can cause
A crack in the sun.

That magic is of no avail
For the fulfilment of one's desires,
That magic by which
The boat floats on the mirage.

Ghalib, I have for some time
Given up drinking wine; I drink only
When it is a cloudy day,
Or a moonlit night.

It is "Everything But the Girl", an excellent band. I like Texas as well, Sharlene Spiterri is so up my street, but hearing her speak will shatter the illusions of her songs, with her brogue Glasguigian accent.

Good on ye Bahrania, you actually have taste!

I don't like english music much, I don't find much depth or meaning in them, but there are a few songs, like the one by Everything But the Girl, that I used to listen to as a kid. I don't know where I got Texas from, all I could find was this small sample online:

Like the Deserts miss the rainChangaiz, since we're in a soppy mood, I dedicate this soppy love ballad Sade-No Ordinary Love

Scorpio, I dont think we've reached that stage of desperation yet- no, not of jumping out of the helicopter, but being your friend :)

Changaize, good to know there are other Faiz and Ghalib lovers around! It's funny cos I was just about to start writing something for my own blog about ghazal, and specifically Ghalib.

Anyhows, how about this one by Nasir Kazmi:

Drink down the days' bitterness as well, with a laugh Nasir
For Nature has also placed some pleasure in enduring pain

پى جا ایام کى تلخى کو بهى هس که ناصر
غم کو سهنے میں بهى قدرت نے مزه رکها هے

Oh and here's one from Ghalib to continue the morbid theme in the poem posted by Bahrania above:

Since upon having died, I became notorious/disgraced-- why was I not drowned/immersed in the river?
Neither would a funeral procession ever have been formed, nor would there anywhere be a tomb

ہوئے مر کے ہم جو رسوا ہوئے کیوں نہ غرقِ دریا
نہ کبھی جنازہ اٹھتا نہ کہیں مزار ہوتا
